Reflection on Growth Area
#

I am looking forward to diving deeper into data analysis and different tools and methodologies to approach it. I got very he weeds halfway through the semester and that information didn’t stick as well as some of the rest. Additionally, this is the kind of thing that is harder for me to learn about just from reading, so it’s great that the research proposal I sent in has already gotten IRB approval and I’m currently recruiting participants! I’ll get that hands-on knowledge!

Here’s the Plan
#

  1. Re-read the chapters. I think I left too much space between when I read the chapter and really considered a lot of the concepts for my research framework. A refresher will be great, especially since this research project is underway.

    1. I would like to gain more in-depth understanding of the more distinct types of data analysis.
    2. I do want to give myself credit. I did include concurrent gathering and analysis in my plan, as well as coding (and my pre-established codes are based in the literature). I didn’t state that I was going to write memos in my framework, but as I reflect, I will likely have at least some contemporaneous notes from after the interviews.
  2. I am going to investigate Dedoose. I have some data from my job I’m curious to explore and think that’s a low-stakes way to do it after I de-identify the data.

    1. I recently let two of my 4th grade classes use AI if they wanted extra help to write poems.
    2. I’m going to use Dedoose to see what patterns come out of those interactions, and compare it to what the AI gave me as overviews and evaluations.
    3. I am also looking for how frequently students asked the tool to write poems for them versus having it help them with ideas.
  3. I am taking the advanced qualitative research class in the fall. I like the idea of taking scaling methods, but I think I can get some of those skills using other learning methods compared to advanced qual.
